HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! We’re very thankful for our newsletter subscribers, business partners, and all the people who have attended our chocolate tasting programs and walks this year. Best wishes for a great start to this holiday season.

HOLIDAY GIFT CERTIFICATES AVAILABLE

This year, why just give chocolates when you can give a chocolate experience? These certificates are good for any scheduled walking tours and are valid a year from the date of purchase. Go here www.chocolatetastingandmore.com/pay.htm to give a unique gift for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukah, or any other special occasion for the adult chocolate lovers in your life.

WINTER HIBERNATION

Chocolate Tasting and More indoor chocolate tastings and neighborhood walks are offered seasonally from March through November. Hard to believe another season of chocolate tasting has come and gone. Our programs may be taking a break, but our newsletter and blog will continue during the winter months.

CHOCO-WORD OF THE MONTH

Most of bar chocolates consist of a blend of cacao beans from different parts of the world. Single Origin chocolate, on the other hand, is made from beans from a specific country, such as Venezuela or Madagascar. It can also refer more to a particular region within a country such as the Sambirano valley in Madagascar or Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela. Here’s a fun activity for around the dinner table this holiday: Purchase a Pralus Pyramid of single origin chocolates in 50 or 5 gram tasting squares. You and your guests can then take a chocolate tasting tour around the world. They are available at Whole Foods Markets and in Portland at Cacao . Geography has never been so delicious!

A MORSEL OF NW CHOCOLATE HISTORY

Since 2002, Seattle Chocolates sales have tripled and can now be found at over 12,000 retail location in all 50 states. In the summer of 2008, a new line of package designs for their 15 different truffle bars were unveiled. These bright, bold and playful graphics emphasize the company’s motto: “What happiness tastes like.” Their signature “meltaway” centers melt at 76 degrees, 20 degrees lower than its outer shell. Located in the Emerald City, Seattle Chocolates employs 65 people and their factory and warehouse covers over 60,000 square feet

CHOCOLATE ON STAGE

An additional performance has been added to Oregon Children’s Theater production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Sunday, Nov. 22nd at 2 pm. Also at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts through Nov. 22nd is Hats, with local Lake Oswego actress Joan Freed. Of course, chocolate is mentioned in one scene of this lively musical celebrating all women over 50! See you at the theater.

CHIPS IN THE MEDICINE CABINET

The People’s Pharmacy founders first heard about eating a few chocolate chips to stop hiccups when someone called in to their radio show. A woman’s Danish grandmother always used this remedy and she continued the tradition with her own children. Might want to try them out the next time your throat tickles. Chocolate chips…they aren’t just for cookies anymore!
