CHOCO-WORD OF THE MONTH

When one thinks of pralines your mind may wander to the Deep South. For in the 1800's this region became the home of this now famous southern confection where cream, sugar, butter and vanilla come together in the most wonderful way. However, in the world of chocolate, this word goes back to 1912 when the term was coined by Belgium chocolatier Jean Neuhaus. In this European sense, a praline today refers to a confection with a hard chocolate shell and soft interior. A NATURAL HIGH

Valentine's Day may be over, but the chocolate and romance connection continues. A small study in the UK showed that chocolate and kissing stimulate the body and mind in very similar manners. In some couples taking part in the study, however, chocolate produced effects which lasted longer than from kissing. Why? Could be that chocolate, a food generally high in sugar and fat, releases the neurotransmitter dopamine into our brain, producing a natural state of euphoria. Get more information in this article.
